internet people
Internet people like to peel a fruit
and argue endlessly about the rind,
ignoring the content of character behind.
Why not eat it if we're so inclined?
We get excited about what we see online,
and proclaim we must take action,
but the feedback loop keeps us feeling resigned,
and we never gain any traction.
"Content" has replaced the world that was,
and left us virtually marooned,
living in our own dark comedy
that ends nightly with "stay tuned."
And it doesn't make any sense, this show,
where characters come and go all day.
All that's recognizable are the patterns;
there's nothing to hold, nothing that stays.
Deep down we know there's a better way,
but we can't get ourselves to turn around.
The voice that's calling us to reason is fading
and soon will cease to make a sound.
